About SEO Scotland
By Peter Hoggan
If your web pages aren’t listed prominently by search engines for their target terms they will never reach their full potential. The direct result of this is that leads, sales, opt-ins or whatever your goals might be, will never be achieved. Everybody in your industry who maintains a website is trying to do the same. The financial benefit of top search engine rankings is well known and everyone wants a piece of the action. So what specifically can you do to beat your online competition? What exactly does it take to get your website on the first page of Google?
Talk To A Search Engine Optimisation Expert
The solution is simple enough, talk to a SEO expert. Search Engine Optimisation or SEO is a performance based process that has become a critical part of every well rounded marketing plan. The reason so much value is placed on SEO is simple:
- The more customers you encourage to visit your site, the more customers will come into contact with your marketing message
- The more effective your marketing message is, the more people will buy your products or services
- The more people that buy your products and services, the more financially secure and profitable your business becomes
It’s Not Just About Search Engine Rankings
The term Search Engine Optimisation might lead you to think the process starts and finishes with achieving search engine rankings. If that was true, SEO would be of limited value. Rankings are just the beginning; it’s the ‘leading the horse to the water’ part of the process, you still have to get the horse to drink. That means grabbing the attention of potential customers and holding it from the first word on you page to the last. Along the way you have to answer concerns, explain benefits and build trust.
- You need to convince the customer that the benefits your products or services deliver is worth more to them than the price ticket associated to it. Otherwise there is little desire, motivation or incentive to buy.
- You need to convince the customer that your products/services are one the most important investments currently tugging at the strings of their budgetary purse. Otherwise there is no incentive to buy now.
- You need to convince the customer that you understand their needs and their goals, that your customer support is second to none, that your guarantee is perfect, that your price is justified. Otherwise there is no incentive to buy from you.
Companies large and small are expending huge amounts of money developing websites. A few of these sites will achieve the commercial success their owners had hoped for, some might even surpass it. Others will be lucky to make a return on the time and money spent in development. The majority, unfortunately, are destined to become part of the invisible web, rarely visited and never acted upon.
If you were asked, where does your website fit into this grand scale? I bet it would be closer to ‘rarely visited’ than ‘successfully achieving the commercial goals it was designed for’. So how do you transform an also ran into a first past the post racing thoroughbred?

It seems to have done me OK seeing that I have started finding a few people specifically in the Google Maps field of search engine optimisation. Would be attracted to discover wherever you learned your Website placement from. You can go to my blog or message me on the email address I have supplied or grab hold of me by twitterthanksPeter
